Chocolate – Use It As Medicine

Chocolate is a super concentrated medicine that has been over processed and overused. Ayurveda teaches – to obtain its healthy benefits use chocolate properly:

– treat it as medicine – a little goes a long way. Limit to 50 grams a week
– best is raw, dark chocolate – more than 70% cacao
– read labels – avoid vegetable oils and fat. Look for chocolate made of cocoa butter
– avoid if you suffer from hormonal imbalance, migraines (cocoa increases tyramine – triggers migraines), caffeine sensitivity or eczema
– eat in autumn and winter
– for kapha dosha -try ginger and chilli to support your digestion to break down the chocolate
– add a tiny pinch of salt to counterbalance the sweetness-
