One of the most important senses for any organism, be it man or animal, is the sense of sight. It is one of the greatest tools of survival. Most people can not even fathom having an injury such as blindness. Therefore, it is hard to imagine that people do not take care of their eyes the way they should. It has become a wide belief that eye care only includes regular visits to the ophthalmologist and wearing a pair of spectacles if prescribed one. In extreme cases people are even ready to undergo expensive and risky eye surgery. What they need to realize is that much of this can be avoided with the use of daily vision improving eye exercises.
A simple and highly recommended eye exercise is blinking. Staring at a computer or television screen – or focusing on anything for that matter – usually leads to blinking less often. This tires the eyes and also causes eye strain. Blinking is an action that leads to momentary reply for your eyes (kind of like when you push the 'Refresh' button on your computer). Every time you blink the surface of your eye is covered with a layer of tears that ensures optimal vision. So the more you blink, the better your eye feels.
Another great vision improving eye exercises is to place your forefinger at a distance at least twenty centimetres away from your nose. Focus with both eyes on the tip of your fingertip and slowly bring it towards the tip of your nose, not taking your eyes of it. Continue until your fingertip touches your knows. Repeat this exercise five time or as many times as you can without getting tired. The 'figure of eight' is also a great way to exercise the eye muscle. Sitting at a ten feet distance from a wall, imagine there is a horizontal '8' painted on it. Trace this figure with just your eyes without moving your head. Repeat this exercise four times, taking a minute's break after each individual round. These vision improving eye exercises are a great way to work on your focusing skills. Some exercises focus on relaxing the eyes to prevent strain. Making sure you are in a comfortable position, place the cups of palms over your eyes and sit like this for a couple of minutes.
Such exercises provide a much needed break for the eyes. Following a daily routine that involves these exercises will guarantee that greater eye health. In some cases it may even completely eliminate the need for eye glasses!
